FROM THE EDITOR

Ruapehu Press - - Your Local News - Daniel Hutchinson

I think it is great that the students and staff at Taumarunui Primary School have made such a strong stand against the closure of the town pool.

Too often we let things happen, accept the seemingly sensible advice and move on when we should be kicking up a fuss.

I’m no expert on the wrongs or rights of closing the pool but it seems to me, there are few things more important than providing readily accessible recreational facilities for our youth.

Without a vibrant and fun community for our youth, we don’t have a fun and vibrant community. Pools, sports clubs, theatres and clubs are all a big part of that.

Children and parents should be able to wander down to the town pool on a hot day. It is another option, another excuse to get away from the computer screens and do something healthy.

The issue undoubtedly comes down to cost but, usually, where there is a will, there is a way.
