Ruapehu Mayor Don Cameron is seeking interest in the formation of a local Chamber of Commerce.

Business leaders have been invited to take part in a workshop to look at the idea of a Ruapehu Chamber of Commerce.

Chief Executive of the Auckland Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry Michael Barnett will be attending the workshop on Thursday, October 26.

Cameron said a Chamber of Commerce could play a key role in helping established businesses grow and helping new businesses to succeed.

‘‘A Ruapehu Chamber of Commerce fits in with council’s vision to help facilitate the development of prosperous rural communities that are able to capitalise on our agriculture, business and tourism sectors while sustaining our beautiful environment.

‘‘All our efforts to increase jobs, incomes and opportunities for Ruapehu communities has highlighted the critical importance of having the right advice, support and connections.’’

‘‘A Ruapehu Chamber of Commerce would also provide another strong collective voice in support of Ruapehu issues to both council and Government,’’ Cameron said.
