Plans for Men’s Shed in Lincoln
Plans for the Men’s Shed of Lincoln are gathering momentum pending council approval of a lease near the Lincoln Event Centre.
The Men’s Shed of Lincoln Society intends to provide a community facility for use as a meeting place and an area for sharing skills to repair and make items for the community.
Chairman John Doocey said plans for a Men’s Shed had been ‘‘in the works for a while’’.
A Lincoln man had donated woodworking gear on the condition a Men’s Shed was created in the town.
Doocey said more woodworking gear or engineering tools would be a welcome addition to the 200sqm shed. The group also plans to add a 72sqm annex in the future to create a meeting room.
The group received $50,000 from Pub Charity towards the cost of the shed, and hoped the remainder would be covered by a funding application lodged with another organisation.
The Selwyn District Council is proposing to grant a ground lease over part of the land near the Lincoln Event Centre.
Under the proposal, it is intended that the freehold ownership of the site will remain with council for future generations of Selwyn residents.
Submissions to the council’s lease proposal closes at 5pm on June 2.
