There’s plenty on of­fer at Sel­wyn Li­braries this June.

June is the month for Matariki, and the cel­e­bra­tion will fea­ture along with book clubs, sto­ry­time, rhymetime and Paws for Read­ing.

The first Love your Life @Lin­coln Li­brary event will be held on Thurs­day (June 1) from 7pm to

8pm. The Busy Par­ents work­shop pre­sented by Anna Mowat will cover how to bal­ance kids, home, work, and every­thing else…and look after your­self.

Next Thurs­day (June 8), the Snack At­tack work­shop runs from 7pm to 8pm. It cov­ers healthy, quick and tasty snack ideas for busy peo­ple, and in­cludes demon­stra­tion, tast­ings and recipe sheets. Pre­sented by Siob­han O’Brien from Lin­coln Univer­sity Recre­ation Cen­tre.

Matariki takes place through­out June and there will be book dis­plays and ac­tiv­i­ties for chil­dren of all ages avail­able at all li­braries.

Four videos dis­play­ing Matariki story read­ings will be play­ing on the TV screens in li­braries each week dur­ing June.

Matariki is the Maori name for the group of stars also known as the Pleiades or the Seven Sis­ters. The Maori New Year is tra­di­tion­ally marked by the rise of Matariki in late May or June. This year it rises on June 25.

Matariki pup­pet shows will be held on June 13 at the Lin­coln Event Cen­tre from 12pm to 1pm, and at the Darfield Li­brary on June 16 from 9.15am to 10.15am.

All li­braries will be closed on June 5 for Queen’s Birth­day.
