College held to draw in premier
Ashburton College’s hot run of form in the Mid Canterbury Netball premier competition has come to an end.
The young school side have been one of the sides to beat this year, and took out round one, but they faced a stern challenge from Hampstead A at the EA Networks Centre in Ashburton on Thursday night, with the two sides having to settle for a 27-all draw.
One of the season’s other top contenders, Celtic A, found the going much smoother though, coming away with a strong 28-15 win over United A, while defending premier champions Methven A also recorded a win, showing that they’re getting better every week with a 38-31 victory over Southern A.
All sides now get a two-week break, with no netball over the school holidays, and when they return on July 27 the third round of round two will feature a clash of the titans, with Celtic A to play College A. In other matches Hampstead A will play Methven A, and Southern A will play United A.
In Selwyn, Lincoln A secured first round honours with a convincing 77-39 win over Southbridge A, continuing their unbeaten run this season. Broadfield A finished round one in second place, and they beat Halswell A 43-18 on Saturday, while third placed Greenpark A were too good for Rolleston A, winning 83-41.
