A destination playground
The Selwyn District Council has revealed the plan for what they hope will become a destination playground at Rolleston’s Foster Park.
A key feature of the playground is a large four metre high mound with a slide and a flying fox. A fort on top of the mound has a tunnel slide winding to the ground.
The playground also features a natural play area and a mouse wheel along with other popular playground equipment.
The play elements were chosen based on feedback from local school children who were surveyed on their playground preferences. The top items from the survey results showed an overwhelming desire for a mouse wheel, followed by a big slide, a fort and a flying fox.
The playground will be easily accessible with a promenade along the side of it, wide paths running through and a korushaped path leading to the top of the mound.
A variety of surfaces including artificial turf, rubber softfall and wood chip will make the playground a safe environment for children of all ages.
Decking and picnic areas will have shade sails and there will also be native and exotic trees and shrubs.
Construction of the new playground is expected to start in September and be completed by early 2018.
