To provide housing options to New Zealanders, MP for Selwyn, National’s Amy Adams, said her party had reformed planning laws and allocated $1.6 billion to infrastructure projects. Those projects would provide an additional 60,000 houses in high growth areas over the period of 10 years.

‘‘Our Kiwisaver Homestart Scheme has already helped hundreds of first home-buyers in Selwyn to own their own home and the scheme is forecast to help 90,000 first home buyers across New Zealand by 2020,’’ Adams said.

In terms of social housing, Adams said her party was growing social housing stock by 2000 a year and making social housing warmer, dryer and ‘‘better designed to meet the needs of tenants’’ including the elderly and the disabled.
