Strong end to dominant season for Lincoln
Lincoln Netball Club’s (LNC) Senior A Team finished an unbeaten season on a high note, taking home the Selwyn Netball Finals trophy for the fifth time on Saturday.
The club had played through the entire season unbeaten for the third year in a row, beating their finals rival Broadfield Netball Club 57-47 at the Lincoln Events Centre.
LNC player coach Vanessa Robinson said Broadfield had kept pressure on throughout all four quarters, making for a tight final.
‘‘It wasn’t until the third quarter that we found our straps and got a breather,’’ she said.
Robinson said changing Tyler Rollo from wing defence into wing attack in the second quarter allowed Lincoln to up their attacking pressure and get into their stride.
Goal shoot Hannah Wilson put home 41 out of 46 shots at goal, Robinson said, while centre Char Porima put in a strong performance. The defensive players played a great game despite being shorter than their attacking counterparts, Robinson said.
She said the win was the icing on the cake for the tight-knit team.
‘‘We’re really lucky, we’ve got a really good team. There’s a good mix of ages and we all get along really well.’’
LNC also dominated their semi-final against Southbridge with a score of 76-26. Robinson said it had been tough going from an easy semi-final into a tough final. She hoped next season would prove a tougher run to the finals for Lincoln girls.
Halswell Rugby League Netball Club took out the Junior final, beating Rolleston Netball Club 32-26.
