Selwyn and Ashburton Outlook - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

On Friday evening the crew and I were in Leeston for the annual Santa Parade. I roped my Mum into driving a truck we’d borrowed from a friend, and after many hours spent crafting and cutting newspapers into something resembling clothing, we piled aboard and joined the crowds.

On Saturday we were in Ashburton in the sweltering heat, but happy once again to be among the Christmas crowds. A longer parade, with more participants, but just as jovial as Leeston.

I’ve been part of a number of Santa parades over the years, and I can honestly say I’ve never been more impressed with the turnout, the community spirit, the festive fun and the pure joy as I was this weekend.

It’s a great reminder that we are part of real communities, and we are honoured to be welcomed, waved at, and rewarded with smiles, hellos and kind words.

It’s a wonderful time of year, and it was truly delightful to be part of the beginning of the season in our towns. See you again soon.

– Shannon.
