Six-seat detachable confirmed at Turoa
Ruapehu Alpine Lifts has confirmed the first stage of its planned major development on Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas, after the company raised more than $11 million from a life pass offer. In 2007 Turoa will unveil the High Noon Express, a six-seat detachable Doppelmayr chairlift. At 1.6 kilometres long with 400 metres of vertical gain, the High Noon Express will have a capacity of 3200 skiers and boarders an hour and it will be the largest lift on any ski area in New Zealand or Australia. RAL are progressing with the consultation and consents for a snowmaking upgrade and Alpine Café renovations at Turoa with an intention that these projects are completed for the 2007 winter season. Over the next 12 months RAL will be pursuing various available funding options to install a further two new chairlifts at Whakapapa Ski Area in 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 summers.
