Six-seat de­tach­able con­firmed at Turoa

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts has con­firmed the first stage of its planned ma­jor de­vel­op­ment on Whaka­papa and Turoa ski ar­eas, af­ter the com­pany raised more than $11 mil­lion from a life pass of­fer. In 2007 Turoa will un­veil the High Noon Ex­press, a six-seat de­tach­able Dop­pel­mayr chair­lift. At 1.6 kilo­me­tres long with 400 me­tres of ver­ti­cal gain, the High Noon Ex­press will have a ca­pac­ity of 3200 skiers and board­ers an hour and it will be the largest lift on any ski area in New Zealand or Aus­tralia. RAL are pro­gress­ing with the con­sul­ta­tion and con­sents for a snow­mak­ing up­grade and Alpine Café ren­o­va­tions at Turoa with an in­ten­tion that th­ese projects are com­pleted for the 2007 win­ter sea­son. Over the next 12 months RAL will be pur­su­ing var­i­ous avail­able fund­ing op­tions to in­stall a fur­ther two new chair­lifts at Whaka­papa Ski Area in 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 sum­mers.
