The View From The Inside <Text>

Ski & Snow - - View From The Inside - by Amy and Lyndon Sheehan Lyndon - old school hand-plant on side of main kicker.

It’s seventeen degrees out and humidity clings to our skin, the prospect of early autumn rain is highly likely… We’ve made it to the bright lights, multi cultural, big smoke of Auckland, passing high-heels, brief cases and business suits… with skis on our backs, Amy and Lyndon are ready to go Skiing! Who would have thought, amidst lush green fields speckled with sheep (only in New Zealand) lay our entertainment for the next few days?

Amy and Lyndon hit the Snowplanet… A place where sunglasses and sun-block simply don’t apply. A place where as far as the eye can see - a roof and one, two, three, four walls are your boundaries. A place with something you’ll never find in the middle of summer – snow, yes snow, the best kind you’d ever imagine finding in between seasons and a place where jibber’s dreams are catered for… This place is the Snowplanet, situated in Auckland and easy to find even if you’re a country kid in a rental car, but super convenient to anyone who knows their way round the big city! One peak through the viewing window and we were more than ready to swap our boardies and flip flops for the jibber’s necessities. You don’t need ski passes at this place, just little yellow discs and once we finally mastered this plastic device we were off into the giant refrigerator. No chairlifts, so back to the poma. It didn’t take long to sort out the Snowplanet steeze. From one glance we noted that there is a lot of talent under the one roof, freestyle skiing is very tight

in this place and held together by Dangerous Dave (Dave Turner), watch out he’s dangerous, trying 9’s over 10ft jumps – what more can we say … WOW! With all the groms (wee people) following in behind chucking sweet 3’s and 5’s and greasing all the jibs. Getting to know the crew of about twenty midgets was cool, all super keen and a bunch of fun to hangout with. The highlight of our trip was being invited to join the tight crew of the Snowplanet, you know who you are! Another good thing that just so happened to be on during our visit was the “V” Slopestyle Comp. A sweet little set up held once a month at the planet and a great opportunity for the kids to push themselves and learn how to compete in a safe environment. Snowplanet is an awesome playground and with winter now fully set in down here in Wanaka, it’s time to get ‘em all down for a play outside. SnowPark is having a HUGE season and it would be a great experience for the groms to hit the outdoors! Living consistently in the outside world, it was hard to fathom going inside to ski. After experiencing Snowplanet we think it’s safe to say that the view from the inside is not bad – not bad at all! A place where sunscreen simply doesn’t apply, A place home to the best little jibbers in the North …

To the crew that runs this great place, we want to thank you for all your generosity in having us… big thumbs up Snowplanet. To Dave and his crew: come down to our place – Snowpark’s waiting for you!
