SC Croquet holds open day

‘‘It’s basically a day when everybody gets together, dusts off their whites and their croquet mallets, and celebrates the season.’’
Most croquet clubs hosted their own ‘have a go day’ but anyone keen to give the sport a go would be welcomed at the open day, she said.
The sport was enjoyed by people of all ages.
‘‘If you’ve got a grandmother who plays croquet you’ll be having a hit probably on the lawn at family events.’’
The Croquet South Canterbury Association, which covered Ashburton to Oamaru and inland to Mt Hutt, had a number of teams attending the national finals of the secondary schools’ croquet competition, in Hamilton on September 23 and 24, Macnab said.
She did not believe there were any teams from Timaru, but teams from Mt Hutt College and Waitaki Boys’ High School were attending.
Croquet South Canterbury Association’s open day is on today, at the West End Croquet Club at West Park, off Maltby Ave, from 11am. All welcome.
