The final vote count is in - and the Rangitata and Waitaki electorates remain firmly blue, with no significant shift in National’s majority.

Newly-elected Rangitata National Party MP Andrew Falloon saw his vote count climb by 1765 to 19,994 as the special vote results were released on Saturday.

In second place, Rangitata Labour Party candidate and new list MP Jo Luxton saw a slightly smaller rise of 1244, from 12,419 to 13,663.

Falloon said the final total looked ‘‘pretty good’’ and was in keeping with the preliminary result for the region.

‘‘I mean I wasn’t probably expecting too much change,’’ he said.

National’s party vote rose from 18,221 to 20,106, while Labour’s party vote rose from 11,467 to 12,729.

Falloon said it was ‘‘incredibly humbling’’ to have received the support of the Rangitata community.

‘‘I worked very hard during the campaign to earn the support of everyone I could, and I will be working very hard for everyone regardless of who they voted for.’’

He had a ‘‘fairly busy’’ week ahead of him, interviewing potential staff.

Nationally, Labour and the Greens have each won an extra seat in Parliament.

Green list candidate Golriz Ghahraman and Labour list candidate Angie Warren-Clarke dislodged National Party candidates Nicola Willis and Maureen Pugh.

While the Greens got to add Ghahraman, Luxton said she would have liked to have seen former MP Mojo Mathers - who lives in Peel Forest - return as well.

In the Waitaki electorate, National MP Jacqui Dean retained her majority and received nearly 2000 more votes, with a total of 24,054 votes compared to the preliminary count of 22,308.

Second-place getter Labour party candidate Zelie Allan saw her vote count climb from 10,795 to 12,054 through special votes.

Labour secured 1627 more votes in the party vote in the Waitaki, while National received 2522 extra votes, bringing them to 13,241 and 23,685 respectively.

Dean said she was pleased with her own result and the party’s final result, but disappointed National had lost two seats.
