South Canterbury’s Hatch Cup and Collier Trophy hockey teams were excited at the challenge facing them this week as they departed for the national tournaments on Sunday.

The primary school boys’ Hatch Cup team is off to Auckland and the Collier girls are bound for Tauranga. Both have had promis- ing results in the buildup to their respective tournaments.

‘‘We’re going up there focusing on one game at a time, we can’t look too far ahead,’’ Hatch Cup coach Colleen Suddaby said.

‘‘We’re ranked fourth in our pool and we’re heading up there prepared for that fight.’’

They will face Auckland, Taranaki, Northland, Manawatu and Central Otago in their pool.

The girls are in a poolwith Invercargill, Marlborough, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Hawkes Bay. Coach William Sharp said the team had trained well and was looking forward to the tournament.
