New trails, footpaths
Almost $40,000 worth of new footpaths are expected to be laid in Temuka during this financial year - and the township’s community board has also decided to apply for funding for a potential cycle trail and walkway.
The Temuka Community Board decided in August to back a proposal for new footpaths on five streets.
The most expensive footpath would be built on Rawhiti St, at a cost of $ 10,800, and other footpaths will be laid on Richard Pearse Dr, Ormsby St, John Paul St, and Guild Rd.
At the meeting in August, the board also agreed to apply for funding for potential projects providing the town with better off- road walking and biking linkages.
The first project would see a $ 50,000 pathway built between the Opihi River and the Temuka Recreation Reserve and the Opihi River, along State Highway 1.
The second was a $ 270,000 Temuka Walking and Cycling Trail, described as "4km of offroad trail along stopbanks"
The projects were included in a meeting agenda, to be ratified this week,
The two off- road projects were part of the Timaru District Active Transport Plan, according to the community board meeting agenda.
