New trails, foot­paths

Al­most $40,000 worth of new foot­paths are ex­pected to be laid in Te­muka dur­ing this fi­nan­cial year - and the town­ship’s com­mu­nity board has also de­cided to ap­ply for fund­ing for a po­ten­tial cy­cle trail and walk­way.

The Te­muka Com­mu­nity Board de­cided in Au­gust to back a proposal for new foot­paths on five streets.

The most ex­pen­sive foot­path would be built on Rawhiti St, at a cost of $ 10,800, and other foot­paths will be laid on Richard Pearse Dr, Ormsby St, John Paul St, and Guild Rd.

At the meet­ing in Au­gust, the board also agreed to ap­ply for fund­ing for po­ten­tial projects pro­vid­ing the town with bet­ter off- road walk­ing and bik­ing link­ages.

The first project would see a $ 50,000 path­way built be­tween the Opihi River and the Te­muka Re­cre­ation Re­serve and the Opihi River, along State High­way 1.

The sec­ond was a $ 270,000 Te­muka Walk­ing and Cy­cling Trail, de­scribed as "4km of of­froad trail along stop­banks"

The projects were in­cluded in a meet­ing agenda, to be rat­i­fied this week,

The two off- road projects were part of the Ti­maru District Ac­tive Trans­port Plan, ac­cord­ing to the com­mu­nity board meet­ing agenda.
