New shop scoops up support

South Canterbury Herald - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS - MARK QUINLIVAN

A newly opened shop in Twizel is more than just an ice cream parlour according to new owners Sharon Blanchard and Sharon Corcoran.

Blanchard said Sweet Moos Ice Cream Parlour, which opened on March 18, is one of only two shops in town to sell scoop ice cream, along with the Twizel Bakery.

With their motto being ‘‘fun, friendly, and funky,’’ the pair look to bring a happy vibe to the town’s Market Place, which is what they believe makes them more than an ice cream parlour.

With seating to accommodate for about 20 people, Blanchard said the parlour has ‘‘cool, funky tables’’ for people to sit at.

Blanchard said the idea behind opening the parlour was to fulfil something that was ‘muchneeded’ in the town. She said the building they are leasing in Market Place had been empty for about four months.

Blanchard said the recent Maadi Cup rowing regatta presented the perfect opportunity to open the store when they did, as thousands descended on the town for New Zealand’s prestigious secondary schools event..

But it’s not just people from out of town who are supporting their new business venture. She believes locals are genuinely excited about coming in for a scoop or two of creamy goodness from their store.

‘‘We’ve been amazed at the local support,’’ Blanchard said.
