MAKING US ALL PROUD
South Canterbury has many reasons to be proud, with our athletes shining at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
I’m sure I wasn’t the only resident who stayed up past their bedtime to see shot put king Tom Walsh throw his way to gold at Carrara Stadium on Monday night.
Having interviewed Walsh several times, it’s always nice to see someone who has such a good nature and work ethic being rewarded.
Waimate cyclist Dylan Kennett won a games bronze medal in the men’s individual pursuit on Friday, beating Australian Jordan Kerby at the Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane.
And South Canterbury is still in on the action with Natalie Rooney competing in the trap shooting on Friday and Shane Archbold in the cycling men’s road race on Saturday.
It’s great to think that a small region like ours can produce such successful athletes. Maybe there’s something in the water?
