Clas­sic hor­ror movie set for Fri­day the 13th screen­ing.

The Shin­ing - re­leased in 1980 and star­ring Jack Ni­chol­son - fol­lows a fam­ily to a haunted ho­tel, where they are left trapped dur­ing a win­ter storm and the fa­ther is driven in­sane.

‘‘If you haven’t seen it be­fore, watch­ing it on the big screen is the way to go,’’ he said.

Jerom­son said the theatre of­ten does spe­cial screen­ings, with The Nev­erend­ing Story sched­uled for May and A Night­mare on Elm Street set to mark July’s own Fri­day the 13th.

Alien and Back to the Fu­ture are two films the theatre has aired re­cently.

‘‘It’s good to show some clas­sic con­tent ev­ery now and again,’’ Jerom­son said.

The theatre also hosts events and groups that fo­cus on unique films, such as the Al­liance Franc¸aise French Film Fes­ti­val and the Ti­maru Film So­ci­ety.

‘‘I think it’s im­por­tant to of­fer a di­verse range of con­tent,’’ he said.

Tick­ets for the spe­cial screen­ing are $10 and can be pur­chased on Movie Max Dig­i­tal’s web­site or at the theatre, ei­ther on the day or ahead of time.

The movie starts at 8pm.
