The numbers of people accessing it increases dramatically as people may be laid off their jobs at the end of the year and they find it very difficult trying to make ends meet.
“There are some very sad cases out there through no fault of their own, Robinson said. ‘‘Being able to help give families and the elderly that little extra to bring some Christmas joy can make all the difference.”
The food bank is totally dependent on donations from the community and struggles to meet the need if it has insufficient funds.
Christmas House Tours have proved very popular in New Plymouth and a South Taranaki version is sure to attract those who enjoying viewing and being inspired by the decorating styles of others. The houses would be open for just one day in early December, with tickets pre- sold to people 16 and over.
