H¯awera caps winning season
Ha¯ wera C’s played Inglewood in the Nimmo’s Cup final on Saturday at Eltham, a neutral ground.
The Mark Frost Electrical Ha¯wera team capped off their season with a commanding 6-1 victory over Inglewood to add the Nimmo’s Cup knockout competition to the league title they won two weeks ago.
The conditions weren’t the best with heavy rain and very cold conditions throughout the match. Ha¯ wera started to dominate territory and possession early on and were rewarded with two early goals in quick succession, both from throw ins to Michael Johnson and Klinton Hunt.
The last 20 minutes of the half was very even with both sides sharing dominance but there was no further scoring.
In the second half Ha¯ wera had a strong wind at their backs and totally dominated the game. For the next 30 minutes Ha¯wera peppered the Inglewood goal and scored four more times. Ha¯ wera scored through Ross Hepburn, 2, Caleb Cook and Matty Kelbrick.
However, Inglewood did get a consolation goal late in the game.
It was an excellent performance from Ha¯ wera who now hold all three trophies up for grabs this season. Players to shine were Ross Hepburn, Klinton Hunt and Michael Johnson in midfield, Caleb Cook in defence. Klinton Hunt was named player of the day.
