South Taranaki Star - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

Thank goodness for the Taranaki Bulls. As I write this the defence of the Ranfurly Shield is just hours away but the way in which they won it was fantastic.

Talk about lulling your opposition into a false sense of security. Canterbury didn’t know what hit them when our team started to play.

Another good thing about the rugby is that it took our minds of the interminable election. If this election has shown us anything it reveals that we need to have serious discussions about what happens when no one party has enough votes to govern. I have no time for either side claiming they have a ‘‘mandate’’. That is arrant nonsense: Labour only got 37% of the vote, which hardly reveals widespread dissatisfaction and National’s share of the vote dropped. It’s time politicians talked to each other about what was best for the country rather than their party. I know, I know. I live in fairyland.

Finally, more good news. Neigh now has 500,000 members. That’s half a million people who know how to interact courteously.
