Laughs and drama at play group
Pat Scaife and Noreen Harris produced two comedies and a drama for the recent Women’s Club Play Reading Circle’s evening of entertainment in Hawera.
Our Dashing Doctor by Alma Woods was read by Noreen Harris and Pat Scaife. The second comedy, Jumble, was set in the Village Hall and the cast was Mrs Beal (Fay Taylor) Mrs Hitchcock (Judy Greenwood) and Mrs Gamble (Effie Gallie)
Fiona Collins then read a short account of how an English meal called Red Flannel Hash was invented. Evidently a furious wife minced up her husband’s red flannels and added them to the hash when she suspected him of infidelity. Chopped beetroot is now used instead and added to a hash of eggs, potatoes and onions, and baked.
The third play, a good drama, called Something of a Stir by Joseph Jonas was set in Dora’s kitchen (Cheryl Woodmass). Paula (Loraine Wilkie) and Maisie (Jane Lawrence) are reading fortunes and futures from tea leaves and cards.
Fiona read Turkey Talk ,oneof her own original rural themed stories that were published by N.Z. Dairy Exporter.
