Duffy wins double at NI dog trial champs
Mark Duffy, Ararata, had a memorable trip to Te Aute for the North Island sheep dog trial championships last week.
Duffy won two huntaway titles at these championships, taking the Zig Zag Hunt with his dog Vella with aggregate points of 192.25 and the Straight Hunt with his dog Shield with 196 points just a point ahead of Whangamomona’s Chris Journeaux and Alice.
He won his first North Island title at Te Aute back in 2009 and has been in 10 finals. Duffy is also a judge having judged the South Island Straight Hunt in 2017.
It was Chris Journeaux’s first finals at Te Aute and he proved to be a strong contender. He finished sixth in the Zig Zag Hunt and second in the Straight Hunt.
The South Island and New Zealand Championships are to be held in Blenheim at the end of the month and even though Duffy has qualified he is unable to attend. Journeaux and nine other Taranaki competitors will compete. Daily updates and results can be found on the NZSDTA website.
