Supercross action earlier
Shuffle fits Aussie date
Supercross action in Tokoroa this summer will be held in December, not January.
The annual day of racing at the South Waikato Motorcycle Club’s Amisfield track will be held on December 11.
Club supercross coordinator Steve Holden said the event had been held in early January for the past 23 years.
The change of dates came after the timing of the national supercross championship was brought forward to coincide with rounds of the Australian championship scheduled for New Zealand in November. The Tokoroa round will be the first event in the national series.
Mr Holden said the change in dates would also hopefully see more spectators at the event as the club felt many Tokoroa residents were on holiday in January.
He expects the event to draw the best competitors from around the country.
Former world motocross champion Ben Townley has confirmed he will compete, as will Kayne Lamont, Mangakino’s winner of multiple national motocross titles.
The Minicross Under Lights event, traditionally held the day before the supercross event, is now expected to be held in December too.
Mr Holden is keen to hear from anyone interested in supporting the supercross event.
COMING BACK: Former motocross world champion Ben Townley has confirmed he’ll be racing in Tokoroa again this summer.
