The search is on again for South Waikato’s top sports­peo­ple

Nom­i­na­tions for the 2010 South Waikato Sports Awards are open and district co­or­di­na­tor Heather Ry­don wants to make sure out­stand­ing achievers are in the run­ning.

‘‘The sports awards are a high­light on the sport­ing cal­en­dar,’’ said Ms Ry­don.

‘ ‘ We want to make sure ev­ery­one who de­serves recog­ni­tion gets it and for that to hap­pen it’s up to re­gional sport­ing or­gan­i­sa­tions, sports clubs and schools to take the time to nom­i­nate them.’’

An­nu­ally Sport Waikato cel­e­brates the achieve­ments of sports­peo­ple by host­ing eight district sports awards, the Waikato Times sec­ondary school sports awards and the Perry Foun­da­tion Waikato re­gional sports awards.

Cat­e­gories for these awards are: Club of the Year, Ref­eree/ um­pire of the year, Ad­min­is­tra­tor of the year, Coach of the year, 40+ Sportsper­son of the year, Team of the year, Ju­nior sportsper­son of the year, Sportsper­son of the year, Ser­vice to sport.

Nom­i­nees will be judged on achieve­ments from Novem­ber 1, 2009 to Oc­to­ber 31, 2010.

Win­ners will be an­nounced at the South Waikato sports awards evening to be held on Novem­ber 17 at te Wananga o Aotearoa Con­fer­ence Cen­tre in Toko­roa.

Tick­ets for this event will be on sale closer to the time and Ms Ry­don said it was al­ways a great night out for the com­mu­nity.

District cat­e­gory win­ners will go for­ward to be con­sid­ered for the pres­ti­gious Perry Foun­da­tion Waikato Re­gional Sports Awards to be held on Jan­uary 27, 2011.
