Youth take to the field

One hun­dred young peo­ple will take to the field in Pu­taruru this Satur­day at the Youth Day Out.

The event is at Glen­shea Park from 9.30am un­til 3pm.

Y Ran­gi­tahi Youth Day Out project man­ager Jamie McEwan said teams of 10 would com­pete in touch and dodge­ball.

‘‘Any­one from the com­mu­nity can play. It is a youth event – that’s peo­ple from 12 to 24 years old,’’ he said. ‘‘It is some­thing we wanted to do for the com­mu­nity. We also wanted to pro­mote the youth cen­tre.’’

Mr McEwan said a re­lay would be held in the af­ter­noon fol­lowed by a movie night at The Plaza. ‘‘For the sports there are spot prizes, in­clud­ing one for over­all best team and wack­i­est dressed.’’

Y Ran­gi­tahi is a 10-week pro­gramme for youth from Pu­taruru and in­volves in­di­vid­ual devel­op­ment projects.
