Toko­roa Ward can­di­dates query on News re­port quashed

Two Toko­roa ward can­di­dates have ques­tioned a re­port in last week’s South Waikato News.

In a short piece on can­di­date’s meet­ings three peo­ple were re­ported as hav­ing de­clined to ap­pear at a Ro­tary-or­gan­ised meet­ing in Toko­roa.

The word­ing printed was the same as that used by the meet­ing’s chair­woman.

In an email Lyn Cor­ban said she had a meet­ing to at­tend with her hus­band in Auck­land the night of the Ro­tary meet­ing.

She re­futed that she had de­clined to ap­pear though said in the same email she had told the or­gan­is­ers she would not at­tend.

Bar­rie Her­lihy said he had in­tended to be at the meet­ing but his wife fell ill two days be­fore it.

The third can­di­date listed is hav­ing de­clined to ap­pear was Johnny Dry­den. Mr Dry­den was at a can­di­dates’ meet­ing for the Waikato District Health Board, for which he is also a can­di­date.

He has not asked for a re­trac­tion of last week’s ar­ti­cle.
