Tokoroa Ward candidates query on News report quashed
Two Tokoroa ward candidates have questioned a report in last week’s South Waikato News.
In a short piece on candidate’s meetings three people were reported as having declined to appear at a Rotary-organised meeting in Tokoroa.
The wording printed was the same as that used by the meeting’s chairwoman.
In an email Lyn Corban said she had a meeting to attend with her husband in Auckland the night of the Rotary meeting.
She refuted that she had declined to appear though said in the same email she had told the organisers she would not attend.
Barrie Herlihy said he had intended to be at the meeting but his wife fell ill two days before it.
The third candidate listed is having declined to appear was Johnny Dryden. Mr Dryden was at a candidates’ meeting for the Waikato District Health Board, for which he is also a candidate.
He has not asked for a retraction of last week’s article.
