Team effort tidies up

Clean Up New Zealand Week was recognised with two efforts to make the South Waikato District a tidier place.

On Monday last week staff from Tokoroa New World cleaned up rubbish around Lake Moananui.

New World was also a sponsor of the week.

On Wednesday it was the turn of children from Tirau School who cleaned up around their town.

Both efforts were with the assistance of South Waikato District Council who supplied rubbish bags and gloves for volunteers.

Council litter control officer Jules Rameka was also on hand to help out.

So little rubbish was in Tirau that the school students actually struggled to fill their bags – something which impressed staff at the school.

The students tidied the area around the Tirau skate park and nearby playground.
