Chelsea in NZ touch team

Will play in trans-Tas­man Se­ries

For­est View High School ath­lete Chelsea Al­ley has had her sport­ing tal­ent recog­nised by be­ing se­lected to rep­re­sent New Zealand in touch.

Chelsea, 17, was named in the New Zealand U19 Women’s Touch team.

‘‘I got in by play­ing for the Bay of Plenty Open Mixed team at the na­tion­als back in Fe­bru­ary.

‘‘I got picked for the girls team by play­ing in the mixed team,’’ she says.

Chelsea has train­ing camps at the end of Oc­to­ber and Novem­ber.

‘‘I go to Aus­tralia on Jan­uary 17 to Can­berra to play in the tran­sTas­man se­ries.’’

She will be among the best touch tal­ent from Aus­tralia and New Zealand when the two coun­tries meet.

The Aus­tralian side will take on New Zealand at Vik­ing Park, Tug­ger­a­nong from Jan­uary 21 to 23.

‘‘I am pretty ex­cited. This is the first time I have rep­re­sented New Zealand.’’

Chelsea has been play­ing touch since she was 12 and en­joys the fit­ness and be­ing able to meet other play­ers.

The trans-Tas­man se­ries will see Chelsea’s team play three games in three days.

She also plans to con­tinue play­ing next year at Waikato Uni­ver­sity.

‘‘I am go­ing to keep play­ing for the Waikato girl’s team.’’

Chelsea will study sport and leisure, and bi­ol­ogy.
