Chelsea in NZ touch team
Will play in trans-Tasman Series
Forest View High School athlete Chelsea Alley has had her sporting talent recognised by being selected to represent New Zealand in touch.
Chelsea, 17, was named in the New Zealand U19 Women’s Touch team.
‘‘I got in by playing for the Bay of Plenty Open Mixed team at the nationals back in February.
‘‘I got picked for the girls team by playing in the mixed team,’’ she says.
Chelsea has training camps at the end of October and November.
‘‘I go to Australia on January 17 to Canberra to play in the transTasman series.’’
She will be among the best touch talent from Australia and New Zealand when the two countries meet.
The Australian side will take on New Zealand at Viking Park, Tuggeranong from January 21 to 23.
‘‘I am pretty excited. This is the first time I have represented New Zealand.’’
Chelsea has been playing touch since she was 12 and enjoys the fitness and being able to meet other players.
The trans-Tasman series will see Chelsea’s team play three games in three days.
She also plans to continue playing next year at Waikato University.
‘‘I am going to keep playing for the Waikato girl’s team.’’
Chelsea will study sport and leisure, and biology.
