Vo­cal­ist seeks ti­tle

Coun­try mu­sic fans in their hun­dreds are ex­pected to pack Ro­torua’s newly-re­fur­bished Civic The­atre on 2 Oc­to­ber as New Zealand searches for the best of the best up-and-com­ing per­form­ers.

Among those tak­ing the stage and vy­ing for awards is Toko­roa High School teacher Keinan Ngapo.

Mr Ngapo will per­form at the show. He is also up against other re­gional ti­tle win­ners for the the over­all New Zealand Coun­try Mu­sic En­ter­tainer of the Year ti­tle.

If suc­cess­ful he will rep­re­sent New Zealand and Toko­roa at the trans-Tas­man Coun­try Mu­sic Awards in Nor­folk Is­land in May 2011.

The show will also fea­ture NZ coun­try mu­sic leg­ends The War­ratahs, with 2009 over­all win­ners The South Is­lan­ders, and 2009 over­all sec­tion win­ners.

The event will see com­peti­tors do their best to im­press judges in an af­ter­noon and evening show. Each show is dif­fer­ent.

This is the fourth year that Ro­torua has hosted the awards, which have been go­ing for 31 years.

The mati­nee show starts at 1pm, with the evening show start­ing at 7pm.

ON SONG: Toko­roa coun­try singer Keinan Ngapo is per­form­ing at the New Zealand Coun­try Mu­sic En­ter­tainer of the Year this week­end.
