Big name rock acts crank up amps for Big Day Out next year

The amps are be­ing cranked up for the Big Day Out 2011, with big name rock acts Tool, Ramm­stein, Deftones, Shi­had, Iggy and the Stooges and The Black Keys all con­firmed for next year’s event.

The mu­sic fes­ti­val, to be held at Mt Smart Sta­dium in Auck­land on Fri­day Jan­uary 21, will also see fu­tur­is­tic hip-hop­per MIA, dance punks LCD Soundsys­tem, rapper Lupe Fi­asco, Nick Cave’s Grin­der­man, rocker An­drew WK, Scot­tish al­ter­na­tive icons Pri­mal Scream, elec­tron­ica noise-lovers Crys­tal Cas­tles and Brazil­ian party-starters CSS per­form­ing.

The re­turn of sev­eral ma­jor rock acts, es­pe­cially Ger­man shock­met­allers Ramm­stein and Sacra­mento band Deftones, will please Big Day Out fans.

And the in­clu­sion of Tool will bring smiles to the faces of those who saw the mys­te­ri­ous metal act head­line the 2007 event.

Other bands con­firmed in to­day’s first line-up an­nounce­ment in­clude Birds of Tokyo, Air­bourne, Plan B, Ratatat, John But­ler Trio, Wolf­mother, Jim Jones Re­vue, Ed­ward Sharpe and the Mag­netic Zeros, Bloody Beet­roots Death Crew 77, Booka Shade, Die Ant­wo­ord and Vi­talic.

Kiwi acts The Naked and Fa­mous, Six60, I Am Gi­ant, Kids of 88, Die!Die!Die!, Bul­let­proof and Street Chant will also play.
