The Forestland Patchwork and Quilting Group has donated 34 quilts to the people of Canterbury following last month’s earthquake.

The idea came about three weeks ago with the group deciding to gift the quilts to residents of Kaiapoi.

Around 25 quilts have been made and nine donated.

Member Angie O’Neil says: ‘‘ We held a midnight madness two weeks ago. We just met up here at 2pm and stayed to about 11pm and we just kept going. We have been sewing ever since.

‘‘It is a good feeling to give the quilts to them because I can’t imagine having sewage in my house.’’

The quilts were packed up and shipped off last week.

Member Joan Pooley says: ‘‘ They are going to the people of Kaiapoi because some people seem to have forgotten about them. They have nothing, everything is gone.’’

GOT IT COVERED: Forestland Patchwork and Quilting Group member Liz Snowsill puts the final stitches into a quilt last week before they were shipped off.
