Lake Kara­piro comes to Toko­roa by truck

Lake Kara­piro came to Toko­roa on Satur­day for the Youth Row event.

The day of ac­tiv­i­ties for Toko­roa’s teens and chil­dren was held at Youth Park as part of the In­volve ’10 Fes­ti­val.

The brain­child of two stu­dents in the Stars Pro­gramme the event’s main draw was the RowBox row­ing sim­u­la­tor.

The RowBox is a truck which un­folds to re­veal four row­ing ma­chines con­nected to a sim­u­la­tion of the Kara­piro course on which the world row­ing cham­pi­onships are be­ing held this month.

The day also fea­tured a va­ri­ety of en­ter­tain­ment op­tions in­clud­ing per­for­mances by cul­tural groups and teen rock bands. For the younger kids there was face paint­ing and a magic show.

Un­for­tu­nately in­clement weather af­fected crowd num­bers.
