Think pink at char­ity char­ity lake walk

Lake Moananui will be flooded with pink on Fri­day when the Toko­roa Pink Walk takes place.

Reg­is­tra­tions for the Pink Walk will be­gin around 4.30pm at the en­trance on Marae­tai Rd. It is be­ing or­gan­ised by the South Waikato Phys­i­cal Ac­tiv­ity and Nutrition Coali­tion.

The group is made up of rep­re­sen­ta­tives from Sport Waikato, South Waikato Pa­cific Is­lands Health Com­mit­tee, Raukawa Char­i­ta­ble Trust and South Waikato YMCA.

South Waikato Pa­cific Is­land Health Com­mit­tee pa­cific com­mu­nity kar­i­tane, nutrition, phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity co-or­di­na­tor Mereau­mate Vano says the walk en­cour­ages peo­ple to sup­port breast can­cer aware­ness and to lead healthy life­styles.

New Zealand statis­tics for breast can­cer shows that 2500 women are di­ag­nosed an­nu­ally and over 600 women die each year. The num­ber of peo­ple on the reg­is­ter with a South Waikato post­code at time of di­ag­no­sis is cur­rently 81. The dates of di­ag­no­sis range from 2005 to Oc­to­ber 2009.
