Windows explode in fire
Tokoroa firefighters responded to their third house fire in two months on Monday.
The fire at the property on Philips St had taken hold of the brick home when firefighters arrived just before 2pm.
A neighbour said he saw the fire in a rear bedroom of the house and, by the time he could grab a hose, the fire had spread throughout the property.
Windows were exploding as the fire spread quickly, he said.
Investigators were at the scene yesterday attempting to determine its cause.
In August a fire on the corner of Tieke Place and Kiwi St claimed the life of an 82-year-old woman and destroyed a house.
Two weeks later a house on Jack Henry Rd was also destroyed by fire.
The house involved in Monday’s blaze was extensively damaged. Firefighters were at the scene for about 90 minutes.
The Waikato Times said three people were inside when the fire started but escaped unscathed.
