The safety of children was the theme this week in Mangakino as members of the community took part in Child Safety Day.

The event was organised by Taupo District Council and road safety co-ordinator Christine Hutchison said it focussed on child safety in vehicles and play around the home and driveways.

The event was held at Mangakino Fire Station and during the day children were educated with the Driveway Runover Kit which showed the reality of how little could be seen from a vehicle when it was reversing.

Ruben the Road Safety Bear also performed a road safety message focusing on pedestrian safety, restraints and general road safety awareness.

Officials also introduced attendees to Clicki Ricki which clearly demonstrated to parents and drivers how to correctly fit child restraints and raise awareness about how to fit straps and child harnesses correctly.
