$1500 needed for Elle
If she could speak she would probably tell you how much pain she is in but, instead, she quietly deals with a luxating patella which she requires an operation to correct.
Elle the four-year-old black Poodle Shih Tzu was brought to the South Waikato SPCA Shelter to be rehomed about three weeks ago.
‘‘They (previous owners) didn’t have time for her any more,’’ South Waikato SPCA shelter manager Lorna Hutchinson said.
‘‘You can’t look at her and not know something is wrong. It is both back legs but one is worse than the other.’’
A luxating patella is a condition where the patella, or kneecap, dislocates from its normal location and it is a common condition in dogs, mainly small breeds.
‘‘If she doesn’t get the operation then we can’t place her.
‘‘It will be a case of putting her down because she wouldn’t be able to take the pain,’’ Ms Hutchinson said.
South Waikato SPCA staff members and volunteers are raising funds for the operation which will cost an estimated $1500.
A hamper raffle is under way.
LIFE IN BALANCE: Elle desperately needs a life-saving operation. In the meantime she finds comfort in South Waikato SPCA shelter manager Lorna Hutchinson’s arms.
