Sup­port for spe­cial Olympians

A spe­cial olympics’ fun day for peo­ple with in­tel­lec­tual dis­abil­i­ties was held as part of In­volve ’10 this month.

Stu­dents from Toko­roa and For­est View high schools helped the ath­letes with their ball skills dur­ing the com­pe­ti­tion.

Spe­cial Olympics New Zealand Cen­tral North Is­land re­gional sports co-or­di­na­tor Colleen Black was lend­ing her sup­port as of­fi­cials are en­thu­si­as­tic to es­tab­lish a spe­cial olympics group in Toko­roa.

‘‘What we want to do is set up ac­tiv­i­ties for these young peo­ple and have reg­u­lar com­pe­ti­tions for the spe­cial olympics. The idea is to form a sub group so mem­bers could in­ter­act with other North Is­land clubs,’’ Ms Black said.
