Big Week­end loom­ing

Toko­roa res­i­dents need to put a ring around De­cem­ber 4 and 5 on their cal­en­dars as plans for the Toko­roa Big Week­end are an­nounced.

The two days of events will once again in­volve Toko­roa’s Christ­mas pa­rade and A&P Show held to­gether on a Satur­day.

The fol­low­ing day the Coun­cil of Min­is­ters will hold their tra­di­tional Carols in the Park event from 6pm un­til 9pm.

The week­end is be­ing or­gan­ised by three Toko­roa groups, City Lions, A& P So­ci­ety and the Coun­cil of Min­is­ters, in place of the de­funct Toko­roa busi­ness as­so­ci­a­tion TANGS.

In an ex­panded Christ­mas pa­rade there will be stalls and en­ter­tain­ment set up in the Toko­roa busi­ness district from 8.30am.

The pa­rade it­self gets un­der way at 11am run­ning down Bridge St and end­ing at Leith Place.

From there free buses will run out to the Toko­roa Me­mo­rial Sports­grounds where the A&P Show will take place.

The favourites are re­turn­ing to the A&P Show in­clud­ing the Miss Show­girl com­pe­ti­tions, Miss Princess, the golden axe wood chop­ping com­pe­ti­tions and pig rac­ing.

The Home In­dus­tries sec- tion will in­volve com­pe­ti­tions for sewing, cook­ing, home brew, flow­ers, veg­eta­bles, jams, pre­serves, re­cy­cled ob­jects and pho­tog­ra­phy.

En­ter­tain­ment will be pro­vided by South Waikato per­form­ers.
