Po­lice call out phone scam

Toko­roa Po­lice are warn­ing res­i­dents to be care­ful af­ter a woman was scammed out of $264 by a man claim­ing to have a bank re­fund for her.

The vic­tim was phoned on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 15 by a man claim­ing to work for a com­pany called Re­claim Ex­port.

The man said he had $3647 for her for bank trans­ac­tions from pre­vi­ous years.

The woman was told a cheque would be de­liv­ered to her later that day and was in­structed to with­draw $264.

Af­ter mak­ing the with­drawal she was phoned and told to trans­fer the funds by money or­der which she did. No cheque with the re­fund ar­rived.

Toko­roa po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the case and would like to hear from any­one who has re­ceived a sim­i­lar phone call.
