Police call out phone scam
Tokoroa Police are warning residents to be careful after a woman was scammed out of $264 by a man claiming to have a bank refund for her.
The victim was phoned on Friday, October 15 by a man claiming to work for a company called Reclaim Export.
The man said he had $3647 for her for bank transactions from previous years.
The woman was told a cheque would be delivered to her later that day and was instructed to withdraw $264.
After making the withdrawal she was phoned and told to transfer the funds by money order which she did. No cheque with the refund arrived.
Tokoroa police are investigating the case and would like to hear from anyone who has received a similar phone call.
