Achievement effected for several DHB goals
Taupo MP Louise Upston is pleased with the progress Waikato District Health Board has made over the past year.
The board has exceeded the immunisation target of 85 per cent of all two year olds for the 2010/2011 first quarter.
‘‘In gaining the only outstanding achievement award from Minister Ryall for immunisation health targets Waikato District Health Board has shown its dedication to the people.’’ Mrs Upston said.
In 2008 the immunisation levels for the board were 73 per cent.
‘‘My survey shows that people in the South Waikato are interested in healthcare issues and this announcement will be well received,’’ she said. The district health board also reported large improvements in key services over the last year.
‘‘Waikato District Health Board has also achieved shorter wait for cancer treatments, changing from six weeks to four on December 1,’’ Mrs Upston said.
‘‘ This shows the commitment of the Government and the board to a healthy community.
‘‘I have been working hard with communities and the board to improve rural healthcare outside of the main centres.
‘‘Healthcare is an important issue for this Government and it is great to see some of the results in the community,’’ she said.
