Teen keen to try fly­ing lessons

A Toko­roa teen will be tak­ing to the skies about Can­ter­bury in the new year.

Cher­risse Cap­per has been se­lected for a ten-day power fly­ing course at Burn­ham

Cher­risse, 17, is a flight sergeant in the South Waikato Air Train­ing Corps.

The For­est View High School stu­dent fol­lowed her sib­lings into the ATC four years ago.

Now with the high­est rank of any of her fam­ily Cher­risse has am­bi­tions of be­com­ing a com­mer­cial pi­lot. The course will help her in that am­bi­tion.

‘‘We get taught the the­ory of fly­ing, do sev­eral flights with an in­struc­tor,’’ Cher­risse said.

‘‘It will be fun, I want to be a pi­lot and this will be a good ex­pe­ri­ence.’’

How­ever with sev­eral hun­dred dol­lars to be raised be­fore Cher­risse can take part the pres­sure is on.

Cher­risse has been vis­it­ing Toko­roa busi­nesses gath­er­ing do­na­tions for a Christ­mas ham­per to raf­fle off.

She has also re­ceived sev­eral do­na­tions and has ap­plied for grants.
