Teen keen to try flying lessons
A Tokoroa teen will be taking to the skies about Canterbury in the new year.
Cherrisse Capper has been selected for a ten-day power flying course at Burnham
Cherrisse, 17, is a flight sergeant in the South Waikato Air Training Corps.
The Forest View High School student followed her siblings into the ATC four years ago.
Now with the highest rank of any of her family Cherrisse has ambitions of becoming a commercial pilot. The course will help her in that ambition.
‘‘We get taught the theory of flying, do several flights with an instructor,’’ Cherrisse said.
‘‘It will be fun, I want to be a pilot and this will be a good experience.’’
However with several hundred dollars to be raised before Cherrisse can take part the pressure is on.
Cherrisse has been visiting Tokoroa businesses gathering donations for a Christmas hamper to raffle off.
She has also received several donations and has applied for grants.
