Two men in in­ten­sive care af­ter car crashed off road into bank

Two Toko­roa peo­ple were se­ri­ously hurt in a car crash in the early hours of Sun­day morn­ing in Ati­a­muri.

The 16-year-old male driver and his pas­sen­ger, a 23-year-old farmer were trav­el­ling in a Toy­ota Land­cruiser on Tiro­hanga Rd about 1.40am when it left the road and crashed into a bank.

Both were be­lieved to have not been wear­ing seat­belts and were thrown from the ve­hi­cle.

They were trans­ported by West­pac Waikato Air Am­bu­lance to Waikato Hos­pi­tal. The men were de­scribed as be­ing in a se­ri­ous con­di­tion in Waikato Hos­pi­tal’s in­ten­sive care unit yes­ter­day.

It is be­lieved the two men were trav­el­ling from a birth­day party in the small set­tle­ment of Ati­a­muri.

Po­lice would like to speak to any­one who may have wit­nessed the crash.
