Danny McBride (pic­tured) rowed his way to a bronze medal at the world cham­pi­onships at Lake Kara­piro. An adap­tive rower, McBride had only been row­ing for 18 months and was in his first re­gatta.

An ap­peal against the re­source con­sent for the Ara­puni Milk dairy fac­tory raised ques­tions over the plant’s fu­ture. While Ara­puni Milk’s own­ers re­mained con­fi­dent they had also started look­ing at other po­ten­tial sites.

A 65-year old Toko­roa grand­mother was jailed for ben­e­fit fraud worth more than $140,000. The case was thought to be the biggest of its kind to ap­pear be­fore Toko­roa District Court.

Moun­tain biker Mike North­cott was named South Waikato sportsper­son of the year. North­cott won two na­tional ti­tles and com­peted at two world cham­pi­onships in 2010.
