Boy crit­i­cally hurt in crash

A crash on an un­sealed ru­ral road west of Toko­roa on Mon­day has left a teenage mo­tor­cy­clist in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion in Waikato Hos­pi­tal.

The 16-year-old Hamil­ton boy was in the in­ten­sive care unit yes­ter­day fol­low­ing a col­li­sion with a ute.

The crash hap­pened about 17km down Jack Henry Rd. Emer­gency ser­vices from Toko­roa were called to the ac­ci­dent about 1pm. A St John am­bu­lance, two Toko­roa Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade ap­pli­ances and sev­eral po­lice at­tended.

Fire­fight­ers and St John staff worked at the scene on the teenager be­fore he was trans­ferred to the West­pac Air Am­bu­lance which flew him to hos­pi­tal.

It is un­der­stood the mo­tor­cy­cle and the ute col­lided head on.
