MP welcomes injection of cash for charities
Taupo MP Louise Upston welcomed the fifth round of the Government’s Community Response Fund which is delivering over $100,000 to organisations in the South Waikato.
‘‘This funding boost will go a long way to helping people in the South Waikato community,’’ Mrs Upston said.
‘‘These groups are critical to us in the Taupo electorate and they know what our community needs. The Tokoroa Budget Advisory Service, South Waikato Living Without Violence Trust and Tokoroa Council of Social Services have received funding totalling over $118,000.
‘‘The National-led Government recognises the importance of what they do and the Community Response Fund helps them meet community needs at a time when finding money is just not that easy. Many organisations which service the Taupo electorate deliver crucial community-based social services, such as budget and financial advice, helping people deal with family violence, child abuse and neglect, and early intervention for vulnerable and at-risk people and families.’’
The fifth round of the Community Response Fund had granted more than $7.5 million to 131 community groups around the country.
Since June 2009 total assistance from this fund had reached $41 million, to 779 community organisations.
The Government set up the Community Response Fund in response to the increased demand for services during the economic downturn.
