Steiner slides into first place

Stun­ning weather matched thrilling ac­tion on the wa­ter when Lake Marae­tai hosted na­tional power­boat­ing com­pe­ti­tion on Jan­uary 1 and 2.

The two-day event’s sec­re­tary, co-or­gan­iser and com­peti­tor, Noe­line Steiner, said the week­end was a great suc­cess.

‘‘What an awe­some week­end we had,’’ she said. ‘‘The weather was great. Maybe a lit­tle too hot. A turnout of 35 boats and nine cham­pi­onship ti­tles up for grabs.’’

For Mrs Steiner’s hus­band Al­lan it was mis­sion ac­com­plished when he won the New Zealand Se­ries 3000 in his boat Misty Blue.

In sec­ond place was Bruce Packer from Welling­ton in Brooster while Te Kuiti’s Mike Robin­son was third in Brayka.

The ex­pected bat­tle be­tween Al­lan Steiner and his brother Roy failed to even­tu­ate af­ter Roy’s boat Shock­wave suf­fered en­gine trou­ble.
