Lake wakes to speed rivalry
Steiner slides into first place
Stunning weather matched thrilling action on the water when Lake Maraetai hosted national powerboating competition on January 1 and 2.
The two-day event’s secretary, co-organiser and competitor, Noeline Steiner, said the weekend was a great success.
‘‘What an awesome weekend we had,’’ she said. ‘‘The weather was great. Maybe a little too hot. A turnout of 35 boats and nine championship titles up for grabs.’’
For Mrs Steiner’s husband Allan it was mission accomplished when he won the New Zealand Series 3000 in his boat Misty Blue.
In second place was Bruce Packer from Wellington in Brooster while Te Kuiti’s Mike Robinson was third in Brayka.
The expected battle between Allan Steiner and his brother Roy failed to eventuate after Roy’s boat Shockwave suffered engine trouble.
