Pi­card pow­ers to ti­tle

Dion Pi­card fin­ished on the podium in ev­ery ju­nior 250 race dur­ing the Back­flip NZ Su­per­cross Cham­pi­onship.

That con­sis­tency re­sulted on the week­end in the Ati­a­muri rider win­ning the Ju­nior Na­tional 250 ti­tle in Ti­maru.

Ti­maru was the fourth and fi­nal meet in the na­tional cham- pi­o­nship which started in Toko­roa in De­cem­ber.

Pi­card had been locked in a two-way bat­tle with even­tual run­ner-up Micah McGoldrick through­out the four events.

The dif­fer­ence-maker in the se­ries was round two in Taupo. There Pi­card won all three races to record 60 points to McGoldrick’s 43. Amaz­ingly, in each of the other three rounds the pair fin­ished within three points of each other.

Over­all Pi­card won the se­ries 213 points to 202. In all of the 12 races Pi­card fin­ished on the podium record­ing five wins, four sec­onds and three thirds.

On Satur­day in Ti­maru he fin­ished sec­ond in races one and three be­hind McGoldrick and first in race two when McGoldrick fin­ished sec­ond.
