Picard powers to title
Dion Picard finished on the podium in every junior 250 race during the Backflip NZ Supercross Championship.
That consistency resulted on the weekend in the Atiamuri rider winning the Junior National 250 title in Timaru.
Timaru was the fourth and final meet in the national cham- pionship which started in Tokoroa in December.
Picard had been locked in a two-way battle with eventual runner-up Micah McGoldrick throughout the four events.
The difference-maker in the series was round two in Taupo. There Picard won all three races to record 60 points to McGoldrick’s 43. Amazingly, in each of the other three rounds the pair finished within three points of each other.
Overall Picard won the series 213 points to 202. In all of the 12 races Picard finished on the podium recording five wins, four seconds and three thirds.
On Saturday in Timaru he finished second in races one and three behind McGoldrick and first in race two when McGoldrick finished second.
NATIONAL CHAMP: Atiamuri’s Dion Picard is the national Junior 250 Supercross Champion.
