Trio blend their talent for show
Acclaimed Pacifika group Pacific Curls will perform in Putaruru next month.
The performance at The Plaza will be on February 9.
The trio plays a wide array of instruments including the fiddle, ukulele, traditional Maori instruments, cajons, stomp pedals, kalimba, djembe, percussion and use their own voices.
The group’s performances blend Celtic, Maori, Pacific and other influences and have been taken to stages to Australia, Europe, the United Kingdom and South Korea, as well as around New Zealand.
The group comprises fiddle player Sarah Beattie ukulele player Kim Halliday and vocalist Ora Barlow.
The three say their unconventional collaboration comes out of a reverence for each other’s cultures.
‘‘We explore the places where we cross over,’’ said Ms Halliday.
