Part of the Waikato River Trails in Arapuni will be closed for several days while the track is upgraded. River trails general manager Glyn Wooller said trails staff would be working on parts of the track between Arapuni Dam and the Arapuni swing bridge. The work would make this section of track, originally built as a walking track, more suitable for cyclists. Access to the swing bridge will not be affected during this period and signs will be erected at either end of the section of track being worked on, advising of the closure. shifting to other aspects of the river trails including a number of signs to be placed along the track.
As well as signs about the track and the distances to various places Mr Wooller is keen to see signs that tell the stories of the areas the trails pass through.
Mr Wooller said information was being gathered on the various aspects of the area’s heritage including Maori history, construction of the many dams the trail passes, the history of farming and forestry, and of the trail’s construction as well as information on flora and fauna.
